St. Louis City of Legends is a new program created by Greater St. Louis, Inc. in partnership with Contemporary Productions honoring the extraordinary individuals who were born in St. Louis, called St. Louis home, or whose lives and accomplishments have made a lasting impact on our region.

From music, sports and entertainment to business, science, the arts, civic leadership and beyond, City of Legends celebrates the people whose stories are part of the story of St. Louis.
Their images and names are displayed on banners throughout downtown St. Louis, creating a highly visible tribute to the people who have represented, influenced and helped shape our city.

On the opposite side of the pole are the companies and organizations that help make St. Louis the vibrant and thriving community that it is. Just as City of Legends celebrates the extraordinary individuals who have shaped our city's history, the program also recognizes the companies whose leadership, innovation, and commitment continue to move St. Louis forward.
Together, these banners are transforming the streets of downtown into a celebration of St. Louis: our history, our achievements, our people and our civic pride.

Walk through Downtown St. Louis and look up.
You’ll see Jackie Joyner-Kersee, who grew up just across the river and became one of the greatest athletes in Olympic history. You’ll see Stan Musial, who wore a Cardinals uniform for 22 seasons and became one of the greatest hitters baseball has ever known. You’ll see Tina Turner, who found her voice in St. Louis and went on to become the Queen of Rock and Roll.
That’s why I couldn’t be more excited for the City of Legends Program and the opportunity to turn our sidewalks into a living celebration of the people who shaped American culture right here.
But this program isn’t just about honoring our past. It’s about recommitting to a future downtown that is vibrant, bold, and energized.
Every banner is backed by a St. Louis company that has decided downtown’s success is their success too. That’s buy-in. That’s partnership. That’s collaboration. And that’s how downtown St. Louis wins.
So the next time you're downtown, look up. Snap a picture. Tell your friends, your kids, and your family about these legends and how they changed the world. Then remember that the next St. Louis legend is out there right now. Maybe in a classroom. Maybe at one of our region's many innovation startups. Maybe opening a restaurant on Washington Avenue. Let's make sure they have a downtown where they can thrive. St. Louis has always been a city of legends, but together, we can build a downtown that's legendary in its own right.
