About City of Legends
St. Louis has given the world an extraordinary number of artists, athletes, entertainers, entrepreneurs, innovators, civic leaders and changemakers. City of Legends was created to make sure their stories are celebrated...and seen.
The idea began with a simple opportunity: thousands of streetlight poles line the streets of downtown St. Louis, yet only a small percentage were being utilized for banners. Contemporary Productions and Greater St. Louis saw the potential to transform those poles into something much more meaningful; a citywide tribute to the people who have helped put St. Louis on the map.
From there, St. Louis City of Legends was born.
A list of potential honorees was developed representing generations of St. Louis achievement across music, sports, entertainment, business, arts and culture, science, civic leadership and more. Through a selection process, approximately 250 individuals will ultimately be recognized throughout downtown.
Each legend is honored with a banner featuring their image and name. On the opposite side of the pole, banners recognize the businesses and organizations whose support makes the program possible and who continue to invest in the future of St. Louis.
The vision extends beyond the banners themselves. City of Legends is about creating pride, sharing stories, bringing new energy to downtown and reminding residents and visitors alike of something worth celebrating:
